  5. You'll find the following files in this folder;
  6.  
  7. 1)  Documentation  (This is it!)
  8. 2)  Bart System  (The corresponding trash resources)
  9. 3)  Bart Finder  (The corresponding trash resources)
  10. 4)  "Bart 1", "Bart 2", "Bart 3"  (The sound files.)

  12. If you are tired of your dustbin icon for your trash or wastebasket, why not replace it with Bart Simpson?  To do this you will require the contents of this folder and a copy of ResEdit.

You should be familiar with ResEdit before attempting to change your trash Icon as described below and only ever work on copies of the Finder, since ResEdit is a very powerful program which can easily destroy programs and data if not used correctly.  I would suggest you also have a back up copy of the Finder on floppy disk, before attempting any alterations with ResEdit.

The contents of this folder include "Bart Finder" which changes the Finder "Empty trash"  menu to "Feed Bart" along with changing the name of the Trash or Wastebasket to "Bart".  If you only wish to change the Icon of the Trash or Wastebasket, and not the menus relating to it, then ignore all references to "Bart Finder".

  18.     Also included in this folder are a collection of sound files, one of which can be attached to the empty trash command of a control panel like SoundMaster for extra effect.

  20. Instructions:

  22. 1)  With ResEdit, copy all of the resources of Bart System into a COPY of your Finder file.
  23.  
  24. 2)  Copy all of the resources of Bart Finder into the COPY of your Finder file.
  25.  
  26. 3)  Place "Bart sound" with your other sound files (usually in your System file.)
  27.  
  28. 4)  Select the "Bart sound" sound for your "Empty Trash" option in SoundMaster or similar control panel.

  30. 5)  Restart your from a copy of the Disk tools system disk, and substitute the Finder in the system folder for the copy of the Finder that you have just altered (make sure it is called Finder, not Finder copy).

  32. 6) Restart your Mac, holding the option and command keys down to rebuild your desktop.

  34. That's it, you should now have a Bart dustbin!
